Introduction
Rocky Valley Resort, nestled on Texada Island in British Columbia, offers an immersive vacation experience in the heart of the Gulf Islands. With just 10 units ranging from glamping tents to cottages, the ten acre property boasts a variety of amenities, outdoor activities, and stunning natural surroundings. As the largest of the Gulf Islands, Texada is remote yet accessible by float plane, private boat charter, or ferry. This remoteness is what initially drew owners Brian and Shannon to the property—it provided the perfect escape from city life, with endless opportunities for fishing, hiking, biking, and more. Wanting to share this tranquility with others, they opened Rocky Valley Resort in 2023.
The Resort Experience
Rocky Valley Resort combines natural beauty with thoughtfully designed accommodations and amenities. Guests can enjoy an outdoor movie theater set in a canyon, where films are projected against cliff faces for an unforgettable viewing experience. Given the dramatic setting, Jurassic Park is a crowd favourite. For relaxation, the resort features wood-burning cedar saunas and personal cold plunges, ideal for unwinding and reinvigorating after a day of exploring. Private fire pits nestled under the forest canopy create a cozy ambiance for evening gatherings, while the outdoor gazebo with a communal kitchen serves as a place for guests to share meals and forge new friendships. This isn't a stay at the Four Seasons; it's an invitation to fully immerse yourself in the four seasons.
Salmontober Fest
Given the rugged landscape, Brian knew Rocky Valley would be the perfect backdrop for creating unique culinary experiences and showcasing local talent. Having already been impressed by the brews from Townsite Brewing in nearby Powell River, they were the obvious choice for the inaugural Salmontober Fest. With Townsite on board, the concept quickly expanded from a single day of indulgence to an entire weekend packed with great food, drinks, and company. At time of writing, the event is nearly sold out so anyone hoping to enjoy the weekend is encouraged to book as soon as possible as availability is extremely limited.
The Future of Rocky Valley Resort
Salmontober Fest is just one of the many events Rocky Valley Resort has planned for the coming months. The resort aims to embrace the natural offerings of the property and create experiences that celebrate each season. Upcoming events will include mushroom foraging excursions and clamming adventures, allowing guests to connect with the land and enjoy the freshest seasonal ingredients. For vacationers interested in slow travel and sustainable tourism, Rocky Valley offers an unparalleled vacation rental destination in the Gulf Islands.
