Why We Recommend It

The Fairmont Royal York stands as a distinguished symbol of luxury and hospitality. Boasting a rich history since its opening in 1929, this iconic hotel seamlessly blends classic elegance with modern comforts. Nestled in the heart of downtown Toronto, it offers a convenient gateway to the city's attractions and cultural landmarks. As the name suggests, the hotel is the residence of choice for the royal family when in Toronto. King George, Queen Elizabeth II, and Charles III have all stayed at the Hotel.

The Fairmont Royal York underwent extensive renovations that were completed in 2019 that featured several new dining options, refreshed rooms, and a revitalized lobby that features a timeliness design and one of the best hotel bars in the city.

Vibe
9/10

Emanating timeless elegance and sophistication, the hotel cultivates an environment where power and prestige seamlessly blend. The grandeur of its spaces and meticulous attention to detail make it a favored venue for important gatherings. Whether hosting high-profile meetings or providing a luxurious retreat for distinguished travelers, the Fairmont Royal York stands as a symbol of prestige, creating an atmosphere where influence converges with opulence.

Rooms
8/10*

The Fairmont Royal York, like most Fairmonts, offers 2 general classes of rooms - Fairmont Gold, which are stunning, better appointed and also offer guests a private check-in and access to the lounge on the Gold floor, and regular rooms. The regular rooms are classic Fairmont rooms, well-appointed, tired in places but generally lovely. We’ve stayed in both and enjoy both. True to the Fairmont brand, expect their signature scent and products from Le Labo, the comfiest of beds, and generous square footage. Because of the shape of the Fairmont Royal York, not all rooms offer a view, but many do. If you prefer more natural light, be sure to request it, and given the expansiveness of the hotel, it’d be wise to specify your preferred proximity to the elevator.

*Fairmont Gold floor rooms are newly renovated, beautifully appointed and generally quite spacious. Our rating here reflects an average of the regular Fairmont and Fairmont Gold rooms. If you have the budget, we recommend Fairmont Gold for a 10/10 experience. If you’d rather save a bit of money, you’ll still enjoy the hotel in the regular rooms.

LOBBY BAR | RESTAURANT | SPEAKEASY | IN-ROOM DINING

The hotel has several dining options, including REIGN Restaurant + Bar, CLOCKWORK Champagne & Cocktails, and the Library Bar. Those staying on the Gold floor also have access to the club lounge that offers complimentary breakfast and snacks throughout the day. You’d be hard pressed to find nicer spots in the downtown core to have a drink at than both CLOCKWORK and Library Bar. They are the perfect starting or ending point for a night on the town but we’re more likely to explore other options nearby for dinner.

Hot tip: We recommend heading to the Library Bar for their famous birdbath martinis, swirled to perfection tableside for your enjoyment.

Situated in Downtown Toronto, the Fairmont Royal York is located right next to Union Station making it a very convenient location for visitors taking the train from Pearson International Airport. Its proximity to the Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, and the downtown core makes it an ideal choice for business travelers or those eager to take in a sporting event, be it the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, or Raptors. The hotel serves as a central and accessible base for those seeking a blend of business and leisure in the vibrant heart of Toronto.

Stay Like An Insider…

“ I love the location and vibe of this hotel - the lobby bars, the warmth and classic hospitality from all the staff. The food throughout the property is great - I’ve never been disappointed and the lead bartender in the Library Bar is an exceptionally talented mixologist. Plus, the Fairmont Gold floor is like a hotel within a hotel that features its own concierge, reception, check-in, beautifully renovated rooms and a wonderfully appointed Club lounge. Fairmont Royal York is my go-to hotel in the city. ”
